The Epi-Log on Epicurious.com: Sazerac: An Official Cocktail for New Orleans?
The bill was originally supposed to make Sazerac the official state cocktail. But that idea quickly got shot down by 28 to 7 when legislators said it sent the wrong message. (And plenty of people noted that the state has more pressing matters at hand.)
A couple weeks later, the bill’s author, state Sen. Ed Murray (D-New Orleans), presented the new, New Orleans-only version of the bill, crafted by state Sen. John Smith (D-Leesville), which was accepted 25 to 8.
