WHAT TO DRINK NOW: VODKA, NEAT - Details Magazine
I received a really nice e-mail from Carson @ Freud Communications:
I thought you might be interested in the following article from DETAILS magazine’s September issue on newsstands in NY and LA now, and nationwide on August 14.
WHAT TO DRINK NOW: VODKA, NEAT
What’s odorless, tasteless and completely powerful?—Vodka. DETAILS magazine samples six top shelf vodka brands, pairs them with the ultimate luxury tasting fare, and proves that vodka is meant to be taken cold and neat.
She was nice enough to give me some lead time with the article, which I squandered planning on getting one or two of the vodkas to do my own taste test but never getting to it.
The article starts off with a comment that:
Cocktail connoisseurs don’t have much patience for vodka. They say it’s odorless, tasteless, useful only when infused with juniper, redistilled, and labeled as gin.
Which is, eerily, exactly what I thought preparing to read the article.
I mentioned the article to Russ, one of the bartenders at the B-Side Lounge, and he reiterated the vodka into gin line.
But - he did mention that he tried 2 of the six vodka’s listed there (the Chopin and Tito’s). Chopin got a good review from Russ so it’ll end up on my “to try” list.
The other one I want to try is the Medoyeff. Mainly because of the write up in Details.
Full-bodied with a long, mellow finish; made from rye in Oregon
We know I like Rye.
Regardless of how my vodka taste testing comes out, I do really like the tone of the article promoting “dignified” sipping over shooting when it comes to enjoying drinks.
Cheers,
a.
