The article is focused on fashion, but there’s some interesting references to celebrities and their cocktails.
Cocktail Chic has become the catchphrase for modern socialising.
From the Blue Bar in Knightsbridge, where you can order up an Italian Job (’it blows your bloody doors off’, the menu boasts) and Panacea in Manchester, where Vanilla and Mohito go together like Man U and Wayne Rooney, to Rick’s in Edinburgh, where they have a ”cocktail couture” list of lethal liquids, the buzz is in the booze.
Princes William and Harry and their friends frequent the Kensington and Mayfair clubs of choice, Boujis and Mahiki, where all the turbo-charged young aristos knock back Crackbabies or Coconut Bombs.
Gallery openings and film previews are not complete these days without their own version of Tom ”Cocktail” Cruise. The standard fare of champagne and wine is joined by rose petal, lychee and pomegranate martinis.
When Sir Paul McCartney hosted a party a couple of weeks ago to screen the film and video for his new single, bar staff mixed up the ex-Beatle’s own margarita: tequila and cointreau with fresh orange, lime and lemon juice. And Dolce & Gabbana recently celebrated the launch of its new showroom in London with Blackberry G and Ts.
I started to get into the cocktail idea myself on a trip to Barbados when I encountered a Banana Colada - devilishly expensive, but delicious.
